Busy time for Callander YF

-

It has been busy summer and autumn for Callander Young Farmers.

It began with the four-day Royal Highland Show in which the Callander boys’tug of war team went up against the best clubs in Scotland. Unfortunately, the team were not placed but had a brilliant time and were very happy with making it so far in the competition.

Members of Callander YF competed with the Ayrshire YF tug of war team who were pulling for Scotland.

Callander members Louise Steel and Elizabeth Bauld helped the girls’ team win bronze in the world tug of war championships in Sweden – a huge achievement and Scotland’s first-ever medal at world championship level.

Junior and senior teams competed in the handicrafts competitions and there was a second-place in the craftsman section.

Callander members were successful in the root seed and produce event which aims to show the best young farmer produce and baking in Clyde and central region.

And Callander members involved themselves in constructing a bale castle at Norrieston Farm as part of the national bale art competition. They used over 70 bales and 10 tractors, trailers and forklifts to assemble a castle and their entry came second in the region.

The club visited the Famous Grouse distillery to learn the art of whisky making and members were able to demonstrate their inner Spider-Man at a trip to the Glasgow Climbing Centre.

As winter approaches, the club programme is jam-packed with weekly rehearsals underway for the Clyde and Central concert competition in January. Dances, trips and other events are also planned . To join Callander YF or find out more call 07564 828416.
