Services to honour the area’s fallen
Laying of wreaths at cenotaph
Stirling will next week pause to remember those who lost their lives in global conflicts.
A service of remembrance will be held in the Church of the Holy Rude at 10.45am on Remembrance Sunday (November 13) in recognition of those members of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country.
Following the morning church service – which will include a minute’s silence in respect of the fallen - representatives will parade from The Church of the Holy Rude and down Spittal Street and past the Municipal Buildings, where the salute will be taken.
Other guests including military personnel, MPs, MSPs, Guildry of Stirling, Seven Trades and emergency services representatives, along with elected members, will then follow behind in procession, before each will lay wreaths at the cenotaph.
Stirling Provost Mike Robbins said: “Remembrance Sunday gives us all the opportunity to commemorate the sacrifices of our servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price in defending our country. Services will be taking place across our area and our focus in Stirling is on our primary Church of the Holy Rude. I hope as many as possible are able to join in the service at the Holy Rude and at the wreath laying ceremony at the cenotaph.”
Temporary road closures may be in place during the service. In Bridge of Allan, a short service of remembrance will be held on Sunday at 2pm at the Cenotaph in Pullar Memorial Park and Dunblane residents will gather at the Haugh at 12.15pm. Remembrance services will also be held in Callander, Drymen and Strathblane. To find out more on The Poppy Scotland appeal or to donate visit http://www. poppyscotland.org.uk/ .
