Community councillor hits out at new system

- Robert Fairnie

The new bins collection system came under fire during a meeting of Bannockburn Community Council last week.

Residents say that bins aren’t being collected when due while council workers have been out emptying other bins which aren’t scheduled to be emptied.

The local authority have admitted that the transition period from the old system to new has been challenging but new measures, including a seven day operation, are set to be put in place to improve the service.

However, local man Danny McPhail slammed the new system as a“waste of money”. He told the meeting:“The people responsible for this new system simply don’t have a clue.

“There were six of them [council workers] on my road last week and when I asked them what they were doing they said they were collecting the boxes for glass.

“But they weren’t due at that point and I told them that – they didn’t know what to say. I don’t blame them, I blame the people in the office who are sending them out.

“They’ll say that these are teething troubles but that’s not the case. This simply hasn’t been thought out right.

“There are too many bins now and it’s just a waste of money.”

Councillor Margaret Brisley attended the meeting and listened to the concerns of Mr McPhail before admitting that there have been some issues with bins being collected on the correct days.

She informed those present that staff absence had been given as the reason for missed collections and asked those in attendance to let her know of any further concerns they may have regarding the new system.
