Council has big agenda

Discuss Christmas lights, parking and new bridge

- Donna White

Residents in Bridge of Allan will have their last chance to discuss local issues this year, when the community council has its final meeting of 2016.

Parking issues, Christmas lights and a pedestrian rail bridge will be high on the agenda on Tuesday (Nov 15) at 7.30pm in the Allan Centre.

Concerns have been raised about parking on Henderson Street, Keir Street, Cornton Road and Station Road. Residents from all over Bridge of Allan regularly contact the community council to express dismay over cars obstructing pavements and driveways, overnight parking of HGVs, residential streets clogged with commuter traffic and many other issues.

With the recent news from Stirling Council that parking enforcement officers will not be in place this month as planned, the community council is concerned that safety is being compromised.

There will also be an update on the closure of the Cornton level crossing close to the entrance to Forth Park and Vale Grove.

And community council secretary Ailsa McLeod will give an overview of plans for Christmas, having secured sponsorship for an additional seven lights this year, taking the total to 18.

The council has also been consulted regarding the planning of a Christmas market and funfair on December 4 in the Royal Hotel car park. There will be a visit from Santa, various stalls and delicious food and drinks. The highlight of the day will be the switch on of the tree and lights in Provost Park along with Christmas carols and festive music.

Other discussions at Tuesday’s meeting will include a report from the Bridge of Allan Flood group, progress with the proposed plaque on the Museum Hall to mark the Beatles concert given there in 1963, and an update by Bridge of Allan Primary School on their MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) project.

Local residents with anything else they would like to discuss with their community council can email contact@ ccbridgeofallan.org.uk or come to the meeting and make their voices heard. Refreshments will be available.
