Gents remainin topspot after home victory

Stirling indoor gents notched up another good Scottish League victory on Saturday to maintain their top of the table position.

Playing at home to Inverclyde, Stirling had to pull out all the stops before crossing the finishing line 19 shots to the good.

It took the homesters till the 15th end to take a slender two-shot lead and it was only over the last few ends that Stirling put daylight between them and their plucky opponents.

Stirling finished with two winning rinks with Steven Pearson, Sandy Deans, Billy Guy and Danny McCormick racing to a super 34-11 win over D Twaddle.

Also winning were David McEwan sen., James Wray, David McEwan jun and Gary Craig with a healthy 27-17 scoreline against Craig Bence.

Garry Brown, James Brown, Jason Williams and Bryan Stillie lost 22-15 to Sandy Wotherspoo­n, while Lee Neilson, Stevie Whitton, David Stewart and Gary Malcolmson lost 21-14 to John Fleming. Totals: Stirling 90, Inverclyde 71.

On Saturday Stirling travel to East Kilbride at the halfway stage of the qualifying league.

Stirling indoor ladies lost 107-53 to West of Scotland on Saturday while in their latest match last Wednesday the senior gents lost 86-43 to Falkirk and are still looking for their first victory with five matches completed.
