In May 1986, John Macpherson started Alloa Hire Centre Ltd, after being asked several times if customers could borrow tools from his corner shop.
Having moved from the shop, Medwyn Place was the first real home of Alloa Hire Centre, where John held his first small stock of mixers and mowers and took steps into the world of Tool Hire and Sales all backed up with a trusty handwritten ledger.
Medwyn Place remained Alloa Hire Centre’s home for the following 18 years until the business eventually outgrew the premises, and the paper ledgers, and made the move to its current larger site in Alloa Road, Tullibody, in 2004.

Hire Fleet, move into areas like small plant for the first time, and also expand the sales stock available in their showroom.
The next big change came in 2008, when after the start of the recession, John’s son Barry, suggested the business could diversify and branch out into the world of e-commerce.
This quickly became a success and resulted in the expansion of the premises to include a warehouse. They now have sales channels on eBay, Amazon, our own site www. ahcpowertools.com and sell to customers worldwide.
As a result of our growing national and international customer base, and, as the nature of our business now included sales, we decided to trade under the name of ‘AHC Tools’, keeping a link to the old name but also better representing our business.
After many successful years trading, John retired in 2012 and Barry took over as Managing Director, having worked in the business for the previous 20 years.
Barry, the director Stephen, who has been with us for 18 years, along with our fantastic staff; continue to grow the business and serve our customers both near and far, with the same high standards that John started the business with, and which our customers have come to rely on over the many years.
AHC Tools has come a long way in 30 years, but remains a family run business, which prides itself on providing a quality product and excellent customer service at a fair price.
