Kwik Fit event Thank you to the Kwik Fit team who visited the school last Tuesday to give S6 pupils some basic car maintenance lessons. Pupils found the event very useful – here are some of their comments: Niamh Foulis: “Last Tuesday Kwik Fit came to the school and showed us some general car maintenance. The sessions lasted an hour and we were shown how to change oil, how to change a tyre and check tread depth. At the end there was a small quiz and if we got the question right we won a prize. There were three questions, one question was “how deep does the tyre tread legally need to be” to which the answer is 1.6mm.” Kirsty Allan: “Helpful information for my age group as the majority of us are learning to drive. It was a useful event to take part in as essential things you need to know in case of emergency were covered. I now know where to locate certain parts of a car (in emergencies) that I never knew previously.” Jenny Holl: “This was really useful as we learned how to change a wheel, check tyre tread and about the importance of checking car fluid levels on a regular basis.” Finn Manders: “The Kwik Fit car maintenance event was a really useful experience for S6 as many of us are currently learning to drive and so need to be confident in checking tyre tread, oil levels and other car maintenance basics. We also learned about some of the free services Kwik Fit offer new drivers and the importance of keeping tyre tread depth at a healthy level, not just above the legal minimum.” Art at McLaren The Art and Design department recently celebrated Halloween and the beauty of autumn through colour. S1 were developing their understanding of colour theory and exploring various painting techniques to produce studies of juicy pumpkins and crunchy leaves. 10 points. Bruce and Schaw have also received a high number of points for their S1 and S2 pupils who have completed all of the tasks associated with their Reading Records. Erskine House points will be allocated this week. Congratulations Well done to all who took part in the Rugby Festival at Forthbank. The team improved throughout the competition and both Jack Whyte and Grant Young scored tries. Rugby training for all players is on Tuesdays after school. Bake sale The Interact team had another success with their Hallowe’en BSke sale which raised a spooky £118.45. Thanks to all who baked and bought. Active Girls Following the success of the Active Girls Day, several dance groups are preparing for a dance competition to be held at the Macrobert later this session. All the groups are led by girls, who choreograph the dance moves and train younger pupils. Tracking and Monitoring reports All students apart from S2 received Tracking and Monitoring reports this week. House Group time will be extended so that staff can have learning conversations with pupils and help them to see what their next steps should be.
