Church On Sunday the Service of Remembranc­e and wreath laying will take place at the war memorial at 10.50am followed by the service in the church at 11.15am, both led by the Rev. Concert In Kippen Church tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm is the latest in the Classics at Kippen series. There will be an evening of music and poetry to mark the centenary of the Somme and of Erskine Hospital. Jamie MacDougall, Crawford Logan, Bill Wright and students from the Royal Conservato­ire of Scotland will be performing. All profits to Erskine. Tickets are completely sold out. Cancer Cards Margaret Diamond (01786 870429) has Christmas cards to aid Cancer Research available and 2017 diaries can be obtained from Moira Turner (01786 870705). Over 60s This year’s Christmas dinner is planned for Monday, December 5. To help raise much needed funds for this, there will be a coffee morning in the Reading Rooms on Saturday, November 19 from 10am till noon. Entry fee is £2.50/£1.50 including homebaking/tea/coffee/juice, with all donations going towards the running of the Christmas gathering. Invitation­s for the dinner will be going out mid November, for those wishing to attend who are missed out or not on the list of attendees, invites will be available to be picked up at the coffee morning or from McNicolls. Bowling Members and friends are welcome at Fintry Leisure Centre for a fun event on Sunday, November 20 at 2pm. The presentati­on of prizes for the season will take place around 5pm and there will be a raffle. Cancer Research The Dr Railton Scott Memorial Committee has its first meeting in The Manse on Monday, November 14, at 8pm. All interested in helping with the 51st annual event next February are most welcome. Rev Ellen Larson Davidson is the 2017 chairman. Christmas Market Organised once again by Toddler/Playgroup, this event will take place in the village hall on Saturday, November 26 from 1pm until 4pm. Entry is £2, concession­s £1.50, children 50p which includes refreshmen­ts. Tickets are already on sale for the splendid raffle. Tennis Club Members and friends are reminded of the AGM in the Cross Keys Hotel on Wednesday, November 23 at 8pm. Obituary - Many in the village were sorry to learn on Wednesday of the passing in Edinburgh of Judith Pickles, formerly of Little Broich, Shergaton Lane. Judith was the daughter of Group Captain and Mrs Moira Pickles and Kippen was her childhood home. She retained her interest in the village and returned to enjoy various events.

Christmas Fair The fair in aid of Thornhill Primary School Parent Council will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 10am-1pm in Thornhill Community Hall. Following the service the congregati­on will meet at the war memorial for the two minute silence at 11am. All are welcome. There will be a retiring collection for Poppyscotl­and. On Sunday, November the Rev Ellen Larson Davidson will celebrate communion at the earlier time of 9.50am.
