Tory councillor to step down
A Dunblane and Bridge of Allan councillor has said he will step down.
Conservative member of Stirling Council Callum Campbell has announced that he will not be standing for re-election at the local government elections next May.
Councillor Campbell was first elected as the Scottish Conservative candidate for the Bridge of Allan and Dunblane ward in 2007, and was the Conservative Group spokesman for Education until 2012.
In 2011 he was selected to stand as the Scottish Conservative candidate for the Scottish Parliamentary seat of Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, and he finished third behind Keith Brown MSP and Richard Simpson.
In May 2012 he was reelected to Stirling Council and has been Depute Convener of the Council and Depute Convener of the Health and Social Care Committee.
Councillor Campbell said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a councillor over the last 10 years.
“There have been times of frustration and disappointment, but these are far outweighed by the positives, including seeing the Conservative Group holding power at the council, effectively managing its finances in difficult times and the superb outcome at the recent Holyrood elections resulting in both Alexander Stewart and Dean Lockhart adding to our tally of Scottish Conservative MSPs under Ruth Davidson’s leadership.”
