Reunion dinner

-

Former workers from the old ICI chemical plant in Grangemouth are being invited to attend a reunion dinner.

The Friends of Grangemouth ICI (FOGIS) are looking to organise a get-together for Friday, April 28 next year at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel – five years on from their last reunion and 25 years since the chemical manufacturing company departed the town.

The site employed around 2000 workers at its peak, including many from across Stirling and Clackmannanshire. And all those who at one-time worked at the Earl’s Road site, or still work there under new owners, are invited to the event.

ICI, once one of the largest chemical groups in Britain, owned the site from 1928 to 1993 but no longer exist having been taken over by a Dutch company in 2007.

Pete Williams, long-serving former ICI employee, said: “We are very keen to contact many of those who might be interested but we only have limited contact information from the past.

“Hopefully by word of mouth, and also by using those currently on-site who might pass on news of the reunion, everyone will be made most welcome.”

The cost of the dinner will be £40 and will begin at 7pm. Those interested should contact Maureen Burns at mpburns@ blueyonder.co.uk or contact details can be registered at Grangemouth Heritage Trust on 01324 666603.
