Archives plea results in these 1950s photos
An appeal by Stirling Council’s archives and libraries staff for information and photographs which chart life in the area from 1950s to 1980s has already had results.
Each library in the area has earmarked a week during which they want people to bring along snaps and material from that period and be interviewed for the oral history project, called Re:Collections.
There will also be an open day in the week of the project when people can chat to archives and library staff about their records and photographs and have memories recorded to build up a talking history of the period.
Sessions have already been held at Callander, Plean and Cowie and it was at thelatterthat villagerMrsRitaCairney brought along these pictures of Cowie galaqueenandcourt andaCowieold folks’outing, both snapped in the 1950s.
Mrs Cairney, who has lived in Cowie all herlife, believesthoseinthe galacourt picture are: queen, Elizabeth Walker; backrow(left)eitherCatherine or Carolyn Duffin, Alison Hoskiss, Margaret Thomson, Margaret Fotheringham, Betty Young and Harlene Cowie.
Among those featured on the other picture are Mrs Hannigan, Mrs Brown, Mrs McAlistair, Mrs Beattie, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Harrier, Margaret Aitken, Mrs Sneddon, Mrs McIlvenny and Miss McDonald.
All the photographs collected during the project are being digitally scanned to produce a `memory box’for each area.
Re:Collections weeks are being held at the following libraries: Central, Stirling, November 14-18, with the open day on Thursday of that week; Dunblane, November 28 to December 2, open day Tuesday of that week; Cambusbarron, December 5-8, open day Thursday; Doune Library, December 12-15, open day Wednesday; St Ninians, January 9-13, open day Tuesday; Balfron, January 16-20, open day Friday; Bannockburn, January 23-27, open day Tuesday; Drymen, January 30 to February 3, open day Tuesday; Killin, February 6-10, open day Tuesday; Bridge of Allan, February 13-17, open day Friday; Fallin, February 20-24, open day Monday, and Strathblane, March 6-10, open day Monday.
