Former world champ wrestler back in the ring

-

American wrestling comes slamming into Stirling this Friday (November 18).

EPW presents a night of action-filled American wrestling at the Albert Halls, featuring UK sensation Joe Rage, the sevenfoot giant Goliath, the Mexican high flyer Mercurio, The Bull Blitzer, Japan’s Tokyo Joe, plus many more superstars.

There will be five action-packed bouts with an over-the top-rope royal rumble finale, suitable for the whole family.

And it will be a special night for Stirling’s Chic Cullen, now aged 56, who will get to grips with up-and-coming Japanese star The Masked Destroyer in a steel cage match when he makes his final ring appearance.

In addition to being a former world champion and two-time British title holder, Chic - whose real name is Frank - is a highlyregarded wrestling coach who has trained some of the best and most well-known names in the business.

He made his wrestling debut at the Albert Halls when he was just 16 and went on to have a stellar career in the ring which saw him regularly star on TV series World of Sport, featuring the likes of Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks, in the 1980s.

He also spent part of his wrestling career in Canada, where he trained and performed with the legendary Hart family, who went on to feature on World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

However, despite returning home this summer and vowing to never return to the ring, he is set to come out of retirement for a showpiece American wrestling event after some persuasion from promoters EPW Wrestling.

He said: “Earlier this year, the promoter called me and asked me if I wanted to come back for one final event. I said ‘no way’. But they came back to me to try again, and after reminding me that it was 40 years since my first match.

“I had a good think about it and eventually agreed to it. I thought it would be quite cool to go back to where it all started for one final time — and I’m now looking forward to it.

“A lot of people have been in touch asking me about tickets and I’ve got some friends coming up from England to watch.

“The guy I’m facing is an up-and-coming Japanese wrestler who I’m told is going to be a tough opponent. I’ve not been training too hard - when you have wrestled for as long as I have you don’t lose the ability.”
