Milton miss out in tight cup tie

-

Bowhill Rovers ...... 2 Milton .................... 0

MIlton missed out in a closely fought Scottish Cup match at the weekend.

The away side started well and put Bowhill on the back foot. Burns was unfortunate when his effort was blocked early on, but after only six minutes the home side capitalised on a poor clearance from defence and went one up.

Milton came back strongly with Whiteford and the Cooper brothers starting to dominate the midfield. Mitchell sent in a cross that Burns headed narrowly past the post. McEwen, between the posts for Milton was called into action twice just before the break with two good saves.

After halftime Milton started to dominate and Clark had an effort saved. Milton were unlucky to go down to 10 men when Whiteford was given a second yellow card.

Even with 10 men Milton were on top and Burns had a great chance to equalise but the keeper saved well.

Milton kept pushing forward with plenty chances but bad luck and good goalkeeping thwarted the visitors and Bowhill snatched a second goal on the break with two minutes to go.

On Saturday, Milton are at home in the West Cup against Lochgilphead Red Star. Kick-off is 1.30pm, extra time and penalties if required.

This season’s after dinner speakers night is now finalised and will be held in Bannockburn Welfare on Saturday, February 18.

Speakers are, Bill Copeland, Paul Reid and Scott Glynn with Big Chic Grant as MC for the night.
