Late goal seals it for Riverside

-

Riverside Athletic.. 2 Dunblane United ... 1

Riverside hosted near neighbours Dunblane in a derby match at Wallace.

It took the home team 10 minutes to get going, and as they started to pass the ball chances beckoned.

A counter attacking move saw a fine pass by Adam Sharp find Garry Laird on the left wing, Laird proceeded to motor from inside the opposition half to the edge of the penalty area and fire a shot past the City keeper.

To their credit Dunblane battled back and were unlucky not to score when a free kick was turned onto the crossbar by home keeper Kyle Middleton.

United equalised moments later though, winning the ball in midfield and moving unchallenged through the middle to score.

Athletic fought back and had numerous chances to go ahead before half time, thwarted by a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing.

The second half was a hard fought midfield battle with limited chances at both ends.

Athletic’s fitness in the closing minutes paid dividends as they pressed forward looking for the winner.

They got their reward with two minutes to go when a delightful pass by Lewis Morrow again found Laird, whose sublime side-footed curled shot from just inside the box sent the Athletic fans home happy.

The Budget Auto Centre Man of the Match went to Harry Thomson for his role as midfield anchor.
