Scott helps lead Stirling University to medal haul
Stirling University swimmers impressed at a national meet at the weekend.
The 2016 BUCS Short Course Swimming Championships were held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.
With 1,709 competitors – 826 women and 883 men – the threeday event schedule was chocka-block.
At last year’s championships, University of Stirling swimmers lit up the event with record-breaking performances, resulting in their team leaving with a whole host of BUCS titles.
The trend continued at this year’s event, with 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medallist, Duncan Scott contributing six gold medals to Stirling’s haul.
Scott’s gold medal-winning performance in the 100m freestyle final was arguably his best, dominating from start to finish and breaking his own BUCS record in the process (47.51s).
His other five medals came in the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and the 4x50m team medley.
Scott’s Stirling teammates, Kathleen Dawson and Craig Benson followed suit, adding four more gold medals to the team’s tally. Stirling’s final gold medal came in the men’s 4x50m team medley event.
The aforementioned Benson and Scott both shook off the fatigue from finals earlier in the day to contribute unparalleled breaststroke and freestyle legs.
