Book Week events galore

Stirling Council’s libraries will celebrate Book Week Scotland with a series of events featuring bestsellin­g authors including Alan Bisset and Karen Campbell.

Book Week Scotland (Nov 21-27) is an annual celebratio­n of books and reading sponsored by Scottish Book Trust and the Scottish Library and Informatio­n Council (SLIC).

Highlights include: author and playwright Alan Bissett, Dunblane Library, on Monday at 2pm; local author Douglas Jackson at Bridge of Allan Library on Tuesday at 7pm; Masterchef winner Sue Lawrence, talking about her first novel at St Ninians Library on Tuesday at 10.30am; Lisa Ballantyne, Balfron Library, Tuesday at 7pm; and an evening of poetry featuring Tom Leonard, Billy Letford and Roseanne Watt at Stirling’s Tolbooth on Thursday, Nov 24, 7.30pm.

Crime writer Karen Campbell will be in Bannockbur­n Library on Tuesday at 7pm and Claire McIntosh is in Central Library on Wednesday at 7pm.

The two events also link in to the 16 Days of Action to Combat Gender Violence.

A special event with BBC Radio Scotland presenter Theresa Talbot for Forth Valley College students, also open to the public, takes place at the Stirling Campus on Wednesday at 3pm.

Community and regenerati­on convener Councillor Corrie McChord said: “The week is a great opportunit­y for people of all ages from across Stirling to come together in our libraries and community venues to share their love of books and reading.”

Throughout the week there will also be E-Book drop-ins, reading group sessions, Bookbug sessions for young children and a programme for primary school children in our libraries.

As a finale Bridge of Allan will hold a family event, MiniComicC­on, where Cosplay fans are invited to show off their best outfits with prizes for the best outfit.

Terry Anderson from the Scottish Cartoon Art Studio will be there and there will be a chance to browse comics, and practise illustrati­on and storyboard skills.
