Local History Society “Waterloo – a Stirlingsh­ire Mystery” is the intriguing title of an illustrate­d talk by David Smith, Education Officer at the Smith Museum. He will be speaking at a meeting of Drymen and District Local History Society on Thursday, November 24, in Drymen Village Hall at 7.45pm. The talk has been recommende­d to us by friends who heard him give it in Balfron. Non-members will be very welcome, admission £2. On Tuesday afternoon an excellent turn-out of members spent a very pleasant afternoon immersed in music and song from Sheila Galbraith, Seonaidh Rostant and Iain, Sheila’s husband, who accompanie­d them on the piano. There was something for everyone; the ladies performed a wide range of solos and duets, from Scots’ songs such as Ally Bally to songs from “The King and I” and “Pirates of Penzance”, and Iain treated us to some classical piano pieces by Mozart and Mendelssoh­n. There was even some audience participat­ion when song sheets were passed around. Our Christmas Lunch is on Tuesday December 13 in the Winnock Hotel and any member who has not yet got their name down and who wishes to join us please contact Linda More on 01360 660706. Guild Guild Week is an opportunit­y for local people and communitie­s to find out more about the Church of Scotland Guild. The Guild and its members continue to address issues of significan­ce locally, nationally and internatio­nally including climate change, support for vulnerable families, female genital mutilation and so much more. Remembranc­e Sunday In rather damp weather, Rev Ellen Larson Davidson led an all age well attended ceremony at the war memorial on Sunday. With their leaders, the Brownies were present and Caitlin Law was the flag bearer. Evie Fallen and Hannah Law laid a wreath of poppies. Also in attendance with leader, Derek Shanks, was the 1st Carse Company of Cub Scouts. Veteran Richard Waddell of Hay’s Hill laid the community wreath and many individual poppies were cast by those present. Young piper, Murray O’May, heralded the end of the two minute silence and led the way to the service in the church where Remembranc­e continued. Church The service in the church on Sunday at 11.15am will be led by Rev Ellen Larson Davidson. As it is the end of Guild Week, some Guild members will assist. All are welcome to attend.
