Beauty dream came true
Indian-born Rajwinder Johal known as Raj came to Scotland in June 2004 with the ability to speak only a little English.
Having done various beauty courses back in India, Rajwinder decided she wanted to carve a career in that field in her new home.
This was the best decision she could have made as she is now the owner of one of Stirling’s busiest beauty salons.
She started college in Scotland doing an information and management course at both HNC and HND level while working at a care home.
Rajwinder started working on the first beauty stall that opened in the Thistle Centre in 2011 before taking the decision to go self-employed and renting a space in a local salon outside the Centre.
From then she decided to start enrolling herself on to various other beauty courses including tanning, lashes and nails to widen her knowledge and ability within the beauty industry.
And with the help of friend Lauryn Abel she created Beauty Box Stirling, opening its salon doors in September 2014.
Changes at the Thistle Centre meant the Beauty Box team was on the move again and in July this year they had to move from the unit they had in the centre.
But now they have a brand new salon in King Street and have an impressive team of fully qualified, highly skilled nail technicians and beauty therapists.
Rajwinder said: “We all work very well together, so much so, we are like sisters.
“We have brought in new treatments in the new salon including facials, massage, spray tanning and hair extensions.
“We have stunning treatment rooms for our waxing and lash extension clients to enjoy.”
Rajwinder said the new location meant they would be able to offer clients lots of new products and treatments in the future.
At the moment the Beauty Box is all about helping clients look their best for their Christmas nights out over the festive period.
And the big hearted salon team are also busy fundraising for Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children throughout the year.
