Reclaim the Night march is ready to hit the streets

-

Stirling’s streets will be lit up by more than just Christmas tomorrow night (Thursday) in a bid to highlight the issue of violence against women.

A Reclaim the Night march is taking place in the city centre for the first time, followed by a fundraiser for the newly established Forth Valley Rape Crisis Centre.

The march aims to raise awareness that violence against women still continues to occur every day, but women everywhere are being invited to make a stand.

People are invited to meet at 7pm at the Stirling Castle esplanade car park and the march will leave at 7.15pm.

The event is part of a drive which sees millions of people across the globe mark the annual “16 Days of Action of the Elimination of Violence against Women” by marching together to Reclaim the Night.

Organisers say it is a “safe and empowering march which gives self-identifying women and those who support them a chance to reclaim the streets at night”.

People are encouraged to bring placards, glow sticks, lights and things to make noise.

At the fundraiser, to be held at the Stirling Indoor Bowling Club, there will be a mixture of live soul music and speakers, followed by a raffle which will include prizes from Lush who will be providing hand massages on the evening.

Forth Valley Rape Crisis supports people of all genders age 13 and above who have been affected by sexual violence at any time in their lives.
