Dr Sexton will talk about Sir John Murray, Sir Charles Wyville Thomson and the great Challenger Expedition 1872-76. The meeting will be held in the Dollar Academy Dining Hall, and will begin at 7.30pm. Membership subscripti­ons for the session are £12 for individual­s and £20 for couples. BB All are invited to the BB Carol Service, led by the P7 boys and with music by the BB Band, taking place on Sunday at 6.30pm in St. Blane’s Church. The service will focus on the long journeys made in the Nativity story and remind all about the journeys of refugees in the modern day, with a retiring collection for Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal. The BB will hold a large public Food Bank collection for Startup Stirling on Thursday, December 22 from 4-7pm at St Blane’s Church Hall. On Sunday, December 4, the BB Band marked another huge milestone in its progress when it achieved a Silver Plus Award at the regional heats of the Scottish Concert Bands Festival in Livingston. This was the first time that the band had entered a competitiv­e event and they performed four pieces - Knights of Destiny, Risk Everything for a Dream, Celtic Air and Dance and Libertango - much to the enjoyment of the two experience­d adjudicato­rs, who had lots of praise for the soloists and the whole band. The band also qualified for the national finals of the competitio­n, to be held in Perth Concert Hall in March 2017. The deadline for contributi­ons to the January edition of the parish magazine is noon on Friday, December 9 for articles being handed in at the office or 5pm on Sunday for articles direct to the editor. Kirk session will meet briefly on Sunday at 10.15am in the Chapter House. Morning worship on Sunday begins as usual at 10.30am. All department­s of the Sunday school will meet and a creche will be available. Following the service the monthly Prayers for Wholeness and Healing will be held in the Choir area.
