Alex and Joyce celebrate 60 wonderful years together
Diamond wedding couple Alex and Joyce Miller had a“truly wonderful” lunch with family on Saturday to celebrate an incredible 60 years of marriage.
The pair enjoyed the get together at Hotel Colessio at the weekend, when they were also presented with a special message of congratulations they received from HM The Queen.
The teenager sweethearts met at a youth club in Baker Street, Stirling, when Joyce was 16 and Alex 17.
They married a few years later at Viewfield Church on December 8, 1956.
For the wedding, Alex, now 82, had learned to dance foxtrot, waltz etc using a Victor Silvester record, instruction manual and practising with a broom.
To this day they still enjoy a whirl and were even dancing at home on Saturday night.
The couple spent most of their married life in North Lanarkshire before returning to their roots and settling down in Stirling four years ago in the Beechwood Park area of the city.
They both had successful and enjoyable careers, Alex as First Engineer for Scottish Power in Glasgow and Joyce, now 80, as the shoe and later accessories buyer for John Orr and Sons, a family owned department store in Airdrie.
The pair have two daughters, Linda and Maureen, as well as two granddaughters, Lisa and Alex.
Maureen said:“They put the secret to their long and happy marriage down to truly listening to each other and compromise.”
