Appeal forinfo onarea’s mining
An appeal has been made for information about Stirling area’s coal mining heritage.
It comes from Jim Henry, a volunteer at the National Mining Museum Scotland (NMMS) at Newtongrange, Midlothian.
He is compiling details of memorials to miners, mines and mining -related items.
The information will be included in a booklet to be placed in the memorial room at the museum ,which opened in 2013.
A regularly updated list of memorials can be viewed and downloaded from the NMMS web site.
Jim said: “I have identified memorials in the Stirlingshire area at Cowie, Fallin, Plean Country Park, Plean roundabout (by motorway), Plean village near the primary school, and Polmaise Colliery Museum.
“I would like to know who designed and built the memorials in Cowie, Fallin, and the memorial in Plean village near the primary school, and when and by who it was unveiled.”
He also appealed for information on who initiated, funded, designed and built the memorial at the Polmaise Museum, and asked for details of any other mining-related memorials in Stirlingshire.
He said: “I am particularly interested in memorials to the miners’ strike 1984 -85, memorials to miners killed in World War One (which could be war memorials or Rolls of Honour) and memorials to individuals who were linked to the mining industry.”
