- Gareth Jones

Fife based singersongwriter Bruce Davies makes a welcome return to Bannockburn this Saturday (December 17) at 7.30pm for his “Songs for the Season” concert in Murrayfield United Free Church in Main Street.

Performing with acoustic six and 12 string guitars, rich baritone voice and an accessible style, Bruce is one of Scotland’s most accomplished artists.

He performs the songs of his heroes and friends, some of his own award-winning compositions and the best of Scotland’s song repertoire in a programme that goes well beyond what is normally regarded as folk music.

For this concert of seasonal music, Bruce blends Christmas favourites with other winter songs in a show that truly captures the spirit of Christmas. You can expect to hear everything from “Rudolph” to “O Holy Night” at this show which has wowed audiences regardless of whether they would normally find themselves in church or not. Bruce said: “I am a Christian and see my work, not as evangelism, but as edifying entertainment. It’s my hope that people will be entertained, stimulated and encouraged by the songs and feeling of each performance.”

After seven years as part of Beggars Mantle, Bruce has spent over 20 years establishing himself among the top solo performers in Scotland.

He regards his appearances at the United Nations, New York and The Bluebird Café, Nashville as very special memories. He has shared the stage with many legendary Scottish stars stars including Kenneth McKellar, Andy Stewart, Jimmy Shand, the McCalmans, the Clydesiders, and Moira Kerr. He also arranged and produced the two most recent albums of English songwriting legend, Harvey Andrews.

His most recent album (his 22nd) will be available, along with his five other currently available releases, at the concert. Tickets for Bannockburn’s “Songs for the Season” show are £6 at the door.
