Help for youngsters to try their hands at golf

-

Stirling Golf Club have received £450 from ClubSport Stirling in aid of the Junior“Get into Golf “campaign.

The initiative looks to attract and support new junior members who have had no previous experience in the sport and the funding will help subsidise equipment for these players.

An outreach programme will focus, on the first instance, on Stirling and Bannockburn High School pupils with 16 players receiving free coaching and a loan of clubs as part of their yearly subscription.

Members are donating sets of clubs which, with help from ClubSport Stirling’s funding, will be cut down to junior sets to allow the cost of participating in the sport to be as affordable as possible. Allen Gibson, Active Stirling’s Club development officer, who helps support ClubSport Stirling, said:“Golf has always been regarded as an expensive sport and because if this many people have not had the opportunity to get involved.

“This initiative allows players to sample the game and with the help of ClubSport Stirling’s generous support there will be lots of equipment for these players to use.”

The scheme will kick-start in the new year with taster sessions held at school venues with training and coaching being supported by Scottish Golf.
