MP’s foodbank plea
Stirling residents have been urged to continue donating to the area’s foodbank.
The city’s MP Steven Paterson met Start-Up Stirling to discuss challenges facing the organisation in the run-up to Christmas.
Last year the period over Christmas was one of the busiest faced by the foodbank since it was established.
Mr Paterson called on locals to support Start-Up with donations of food and other items for individuals and families facing severe financial difficulties. Items urgently needed by the foodbank include UHT milk, soup, tinned fruit, desserts, lentils and canned fish.
The MP said:“Christmas can be a very difficult time for a lot of families, who struggle to make ends meet, and the work that Start-Up Stirling do to support those in such a vulnerable situation goes a long way in easing some of that strain.
“It is vital that the organisation has the funds and resources to be able to offer that support and that’s why I’m calling on constituents to consider what they can spare for those in need this Christmas.”
Start-Up is hoping to raise enough money through its Feed a Family Appeal to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to those it helps throughout 2017.
The charity announced last week that it had hit its £10,000 target to provide turkey and all the trimmings for around 200 families this Christmas.
