A Santastic effort from fitness fans
Nearly 200 turn out for three kilometre run at uni
Nearly 200 fitness fanatics took preChristmas exercise to another level this week when participated in a festive fun run on a sunny winter’s day at the University of Stirling.
Donning their trainers and Santa hats, staff, students and members of the community all came together for a three kilometre run through the picturesque campus as part of the University sports centre’s participation programme which runs a number of friendly, inclusive events throughout the year.
Catering for participants of all abilities, the event saw a mix of top-class running and fancy dress efforts, with attendees also being treated to a special mass fitness class warm-up.
Run organiser and Graduate Fitness Officer, Kelli Cochran-Sharp, said: “It was a fantastic day and great to see so many people get into the festive spirit to support the event.
“As well as some high class running on show, we were very pleased to see some spectacular fancy dress efforts and hope the same enthusiasm will be shown for future events.”
The university’s Sports Participation Manager, Nicola Redfern, added: “We are always looking at new ways to engage with members and the local community and the Festive 3K Fun Run has proven to be a great success.
“The university prides itself on promoting all kinds of physical activity, from high performance to recreational, and events like this demonstrate our ambition to encourage participation within a fun and friendly environment.”
The University of Stirling sports centre is open to all members of the community with adult and child memberships offering access to the swimming pool, fitness suite, fitness classes (adult membership only), sports hall, athletics track and squash courts.
A wide variety of classes and events are run throughout the year with many provided free-ofcharge for members.
