Thursday, December 8 Sold were 239 cattle comprising of 116 prime bullocks and heifers and young bulls, eight OTM cattle and 110 cast cows and bulls. A good show of prime bullocks and heifers for quality and numbers forward would be dearer on the week. Many more could have been sold to sellers advantage. In the cow section, a far better show of cows in general with well fleshed cows dearer, and plainer cows cheaper. Averages: prime bullocks 215p; prime heifers 225p; young bulls 168p; OTM cattle 150p; beef cows 117p; dairy cows 84p; cast bulls 111p. Leading the sale today at 248p pkg was a heavy Limousin Heifer from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Dunfermlin­e which sold to T Johnston, Butcher, Falkirk. This was closely followed at 245p by W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn and TH Gray, Balquharra­ge, Lennoxtown being purchased by HA Black and Sons, Butchers, Lanark and Armadale and A Gray, Butchers, Upper Craig, Stirling. Bullocks topped at 240p pkg from D Dickinson, Brockwoodl­ees, Canonbie to T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk. Monday, December 12 Forward were 204 store cattle and 513 store Llmbs and feeding ewes. All classes dearer to that of two weeks ago. Heifers averaged 203p pkg, selling to 305p kg for Limousins from B Harper, Greenwells, Falkirk and to £1080 for Limousins from J Gilvear and Sons, Graystale, Stirling. Tuesday, December 13 Forward were 2714 prime lambs, ewes and tups at the annual Christmas Show and Sale of Prime Sheep which was kindly sponsored by AA Oils. The show was kindly judged by Craig Tulloch, Tulloch Butchers, Paisley and the following were his awards: Champion Pen - J Miller and Son, Drumharrow, Luncarty for an outstandin­g pen of Beltex weighing 48kg and fetching a final bid of £125.00 to the judge Craig Tulloch. Reserve Champion Pen - WM Bell and Son, Craigend, Perth for a cracking pen of Texel lambs weighing 51kg and selling to the top price of the day at £145, again to the Judge Craig Tulloch.
