Ross was shocked by City defeat

Stirling Albion skipper Ross McMillan admits the recent 2-0 defeat at Edinburgh City which saw the Binos go bottom of Ladbrokes League 2 was a shock to the system.

The former Stenhousemuir defender was on target in the 3-1 home win against Annan on Saturday and believes the Binos should now be looking to push on towards the top half of the table.

He said: “It was a massive game after what happened last week when we were terrible. It’s a big month coming up with two more games against the teams around us and it was a great performance against Annan.

“The players had a talk about things after the Edinburgh game and it seemed to work because there was a reaction and we’ve maybe not had that this season before when the chips have been down.

“We don’t want to be back at the bottom of the league again – I think that was a wake-up call for everybody. With the boys we have in that dressing room we shouldn’t be at the bottom of the league ever.

“It was crucial that we did put in a performance because the gaffer said during the week that if we didn’t we would be in a relegation fight for the whole season. Hopefully this is a turning point and we can start challenging for the playoffs because there are plenty of points to play for.”

Stirling beat Montrose 2-0 at Forthbank back in August and another victory would see them leapfrog the Angus club but McMillan is wary of their recent improvement.

He added: “It will be a tough game. They have had a good reaction to the new manager coming in but we should be going there looking to win and the boys are confident.

“The most pleasing thing about Saturday was the reaction after losing the early goal. We could have put the heads down because the goal was a comedy of errors – it could have been cleared or let out for a corner but we reacted really well and I couldn’t see Annan scoring again.

“There’s not much in this league and a few wins pushes you right up the table. It’s a crucial period and we want to make it nine points from these three games against Annan, Montrose and Cowdenbeath.”
