Winlifts spirits

-

is always pressure and it doesn’t help when you concede a goal so early but the guys showed great character to come back and score three goals and we ran out worthy winners.

“I hope we can push on but we have been here before after we beat Elgin but hopefully we can start kicking on and have players fighting for positions.

“Maybe some guys previously thought they were stick-ons regardless of performances at times but that won’t be the case. If you play it’s on merit and if you don’t you’ll be out the team.

“It’s likely to be January before we bring players in but if we can do anything before then we will. There are certain positions I feel we could be stronger in but I’m not going to name them at the moment.”

Given Albion’s poor defensive record this season, and the likely need for midfield reinforcement, it’s unlikely that the forward area will be a priority for Mackay.

He confirmed: “Darren Smith came into the team after injury and did well. I believe he is more suited to playing up top rather than out wide or in a more withdrawn role behind the striker. He makes good runs and he is a handful – he is a clever footballer.

“I’ve got four players challenging – Ross Kavanagh, Blair Henderson and Dylan Bikey being the others – so it’s not one of my priorities right at this minute but it’s looking like Dylan will be away in January so I’ll probably need to bring in another one then.”
