Park’s vision for Callander’s future
Plans for housing, business and tourism
Major development in Callander is included in a newly rubberstamped plan setting out housing, business and tourism opportunities in the National Park over the next decade.
More than 70 potential opportunities across the park area are identified in ‘LIVE Park,’ which was officially adopted this month - including around 120 new homes for the Trossachs ‘gateway’ town.
The plan outlines a vision for making Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park an attractive and viable place for young people and families to live and work, for businesses to start and grow and for improving the experience for visitors whilst also protecting the unique environment of the area over the next 10 years.
Following extensive engagement and consultation during the process to prepare the plan over almost two years, it has now been formally adopted by the National Park Authority as its Local Development Plan, the legal document to determine all planning decisions in the National Park. The plan will be updated every five years.
As the largest town in the national park, proposals for future development in Callander are said to be “key” to the Local Development Plan.
Potential developments for Callander include:
•Supporting the town centre and modernising the car park at Station Road.
•Delivering opportunities for a new supermarket and visitor accommodation.
•Delivering a large mixed-use development site for housing, businesses, a riverside park
