Join some wintery Christmas rambles

-

People in the Forth Valley area are being invited to step out with Stirling, Falkirk & District Ramblers.

Ramblers are running their free, annual Festival of Winter Walks until January 8, where walkers across the country will leave footprints in the snow as they explore Britain at its wintry best.

Starting in the build up to Christmas, the Festival of Winter Walks marches right into the New Year.

On Wednesday, December 28, at 10.30am there is a moderate walk from Menstrie Glen up to Jerah Farm, a distance of 5.5 miles. There is an initial steep ascent of Menstrie Glen taken at a slow, easy pace before following the Menstrie Burn to the ruins of Jerah Farm. The return to Menstrie is via the Lossburn Reservoir and Dumyat Farm. The meeting point is at the Dumyat Centre car park in Menstrie (postcode FK11 7BEJ) at 10.15am.

On Sunday January 8 at 10.45am there is an easy six mile walk from Alloa to the Black Devon Wetlands, where an RSPB representative will discuss the changes being made. The walk will continue on good paths to Clackmannan before returning to Alloa. The meeting point is Linden Avenue car park in Stirling at 10am or Alloa Town Centre car park (postcode FK10 1JY) at 10.30am.

Treasurer and publicity officer of Stirling, Falkirk and District Group, Margaret Cook said:“Winter is one of the best times to go out for a walk. There’s something truly magical about putting on your hat and gloves, heading out with your loved ones and perhaps even being the first person to leave footprints in the snow.

“Our popular Festival of Winter Walks is our Christmas gift to people in the Forth Valley area, so that everyone can enjoy the wonders of a winter walk. Our walks during the festival are free, fun, friendly and open to everyone, so wrap up warm, bring a packed lunch and flask of tea or coffee and join us as we enjoy the season the way we know best, on our feet.”
