Robbie looks to the future outside pool
Olympic silver medallist and world champion Robbie Renwick is retiring from competitive swimming after more than a decade at the top of the sport.
Stirling-based Robbie now hopes to concentrate on helping the next generation of swimmers.
He said: “I feel passionately about sharing my knowledge with the next generation and mentoring younger athletes who are starting out in their career.”
He is working with Scottish Swimming to promote the health benefits of the sport.
Robbie won gold in the 200m freestyle at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and earlier this year came back from Rio with a silver medal in the 4x200m relay..
He said: “I started swimming competitively when I was eight years old and I’m so lucky to have had wonderful swimming coaches throughout my career.
“As a performance athlete we talk about marginal gains to help us go faster but that’s all built on the skills we learn at a very young age.
“Without the basics I wouldn’t have the efficient stroke technique that has brought me the success I’ve enjoyed over the last 10 years.”
Next month Robbie will join an international coach poolside at an Adult Swim Series event at Stirling University. To book a place at the event on Saturday, January 14, log on to www. scottishswimming.com.
