Roads near parade route will be closed

Stirling Area Commander, Chief Inspector Lynn Ratcliff, say police are well prepared for what promises to be a busy Hogmanay

I hope you enjoyed a happy Christmas with family and friends and are now looking forward to the Hogmanay celebratio­ns to come.

New Year is always a busy time for Police Scotland and the other emergency services and we expect it to be particular­ly so this year due to the Old Firm match also taking place on December 31.

We will have additional officers working locally and across the country to cope with the additional demand that this time of year generates and I would urge you to do your bit by enjoying all the celebratio­ns and events responsibl­y and safely.

There will be a family Hogmanay event in Stirling City Centre to mark the start of the New Year. The ‘It’s Time to Ring in the New Year Event’ begins at 6.30pm with a lantern parade starting at Mar’s Wark at the top of the town, which will make its way through Broad Street, Bow Street, Baker Street, King Street to finish in Port Street.

Please be aware that for the safety of those participat­ing in and watching the parade, a number of roads on and around the parade route will be closed from 6pm until approximat­ely 9pm and parking restrictio­ns will also be in place in some areas.

Stirling Council will be placing signs on all the affected roads over the next few days and further informatio­n is also available on the Stirling Council website.
