Gregor hits right notes with new apprenticeship

-

A Stirling teenager is looking forward to gaining a brand new qualification.

Gregor Flynn is set to complete Stirling Council’s first Modern Apprenticeship (MA) in Creative and Culture.

Based at theTolbooth venue, the 18-year-old has spent the last year supporting staff with events, recording, workshops and marketing.

After helping out with sound production at events when he was still in school, Gregor went on to ForthValley College to study sound production. During the first 18 months he also volunteered at the Tolbooth for one or two nights each week, and when the MA came up decided to pause his studies and apply.

He said:“I thought it was perfect for me so I went through the interview process and started in January 2016. As much as I love sound production, the apprenticeship involved other interesting aspects too, like looking after music workshops, planning and organising events, live sound engineering, studio work, radio recording and online marketing.

“I’ve been involved with lots of projects during my time here, including music workshops and live sound work, and I was in charge of sound at this year’s Strange Behaviours Festival which was really cool.”

Stirling Council’s Finance and Economy Convenor Neil Benny said: “Congratulations to Gregor for his achievement. This stuff is great to learn and hopefully will fit him well for a great career into the future.

“Stirling Council, as an employer, believes in training the next generation of talent and our recruitment and funding practices reflect this.”
