Stirling appeal hits a high

-

The amount raised by an appeal to help feed desperate families this Christmas has hit a new high.

Start-Up Stirling revealed this week that more than £25,000 had been generated to its Feed a Family Appeal.

The money was provide Christmas dinners of turkey and all the trimmings to more than 250 people.

“We don’t know how or where to start saying thank you,”said Start-Up’s Joanie Littlejohn.“With your support, we were able to provide Christmas dinner for 276 people who otherwise would have gone without, 113 of whom were children.”The figure is almost double the amount raised in the first festive appeal last year, and the excess funds will be used to help provide fresh food for users of the crisis service throughout 2017.

Staff and volunteers at Start-Up have been taken aback by the amount of donations they have received.

Large donations have been handed over by Stirling area companies and organisations, and two bag packs at Morrisons in Stirling and M&S in Dunblane last week raised more than £2,300.

Around 10 tonnes of food were also donated to the foodbank, which will help keep its shelves stocked for the start of 2017.

The charity held a festive meal this week for those who may have been alone at Christmas or in temporary accommodation.
