Swanswater The break in fishing caused by the stormy weather and the two days closure for Christmas resulted in a tremendous start to the charity competitio­n on Tuesday. Winner Stephen Cassells from Fife landed his first five fish in 15 minutes on the front of the island. Stevie has attended all but one of the annual charity competitio­ns over the last 18 years but this was his first win. Runner-up was Andy Hunter and Ryan Britton took third place. Prizes were tackle vouchers to the value of £50, £30 and £20. A total of 69 fish were caught in the competitio­n, including two estimated to be more than 10lb, plus numerous fish lost. A donation of £1100 will be made to Strathcarr­on Hospice. The fishery thanked everyone who took part, donated prizes or b ought raffle tickets. Top local catches: Ian Whitelaw (Dunipace) five for 12lb, including two golds plus six released; Alan Whitton (Stirling) four for 11lb including 4lb gold and a blue; Sol Gibson (Stirling) two for 7lb 4oz fincluding a blue; Kris Elliot (Stirling) two for 5lb plus six released; Malcolm Miller (Clackmanna­n) 4lb 8oz gold. Orchill The fish have been caught from just under the surface to about two-three feet down. Top local catches came from Dougie Allan (Callander) two for 8lbs 8oz on a Kate McLaren and Ivor Campbell (Aberfoyle) who managed three for 12lbs on an Ally McCoist. Glenbervie The best catch on fly this week was Bill Buchan with 14 trout on Rabbit. Jordan Anderson released 11, Ian Dobbie, Ryan Rennie and William Brownlie had 10; John Patrick seven; Andy McAulay managed six on Purple Prancer; Frank Turner, Bob Young and H Kane released five; Ronnie Couper and David Ford four. Best patterns on fly: various Rabbits, Green Chartreuse Buzzers, Yellow Dancer, Ally McCoist and Purple Prancer.On New Year’s Day the fishery will be open from 9am.
