Nearly a Murray Christmas panto

-

Well done to all the cast and crew at the Macrobert Arts Centre for another thoroughly enjoyable pantomime show this year. The Kane clan were there en masse last week for our annual Christmas family outing. As usual I forgot my vow to sit at the end of the row and once again ended in the middle, meaning I spent all night passing bags of sweets in either direction!

“Weans in the Wood”was written by regular Stirling pantoscribe Johnny McKnight and many of the cast have been there for years, giving the show a familiar feel which works particularly well. Mark McDonnell was a great pantomime dame and stole the show with some bizzare and wonderful outfits and one scene in particular which involved a poor unsuspecting member of the audience being called on to stage to play his love-interest.

Unsung hero Merv took it all in his stride, but we all noticed later in the show that Jamie Murray was sitting two seats along from him; a legendary pantomime moment could have been forged that night but for the low lighting and the random choices of Magic Merlina! the best burger I’ve ever had in a restaurant arrived (note the“best in restaurant”; the burgers from Barker’s Highland Beef at the monthly Stirling Farmers’Market are the best burgers ever), along with perfectly seasoned sweet potato fries and great onion rings.

The food more than made up for the uncomfortable seats made from chipboard and scaffolding poles and I’ll definitely be back.

Plus, the beer I ordered arrived in an old fashioned glass tankard with a handle - it is the simple things that make all the difference!
