Sir Andy pops in to hit with kids
Sir Andy Murray gave some local youngsters a surprise Christmas present on Boxing Day when he invited two up and coming stars to practice with him at the Gleneagles Arena as he started his preparations for the Australian Open.
Ali Collins from Dunblane and Vincent Gillespie from Cambuskenneth joined others who train at the Adam Brown Tennis Academy to watch the court star practice and he then gave them the Christmas present of a lifetime by inviting them on to the court for some practice drills and games. Despite it being late into the evening, he spent time with the young players, answering all their questions.
As well as the youngsters learning about his daily routines and what life is like as a professional player, Murray said his proudest moment was winning gold for Team GB at the Rio Olympics!
Ali, who is pursuing a full time career in tennis, and Vincent, who is on a tennis scholarship at Drake University in the USA, were more than delighted to be hitting partners.
Ali said:“It was fantastic to be able to get the chance to hit with such an inspirational player.”
Vincent added:“It was an honour to be on the same court as him.
“To get the opportunity to hit with him was something I will never forget!”
Tennis coach Adam Brown said:“This was such an inspirational opportunity for some of my players. I am sure they will never forget this Christmas!
“One of the children said‘I can’t believe I got to hit with Andy Murray! He even said:‘Great Shot!’ when I hit a winner! He was so cool!”
