Stamping a new look on PO services
Consultation over move
A Stirling Post Office branch is moving to a new location and promising an improvement in its services.
The Springfield Road office will be closing for business with a new ‘local style’ Post Office due to open at Broomridge Mini Market at Wishart Drive, less than 1km away, as a replacement.
The move, which is subject to public consultation, is part of a major modernisation programme taking place involving 8000 branches across the Post Office network.
Opening hours will increase to 6am to 10pm seven days each week with a new till on the retail counter in what is described by the Post Office as a “modern open-plan branch”. All essential services will remain available.
People will be asked for their views on the change over the next six weeks and Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford is urging local people to make sure they have their say.
He said: “The proposal from the Post Office would see a move from the current location in Springfield Road to Broomridge Mini Market with an increased service. This would mean opening hours increase to 6am to 10pm seven days a week. I have already had some constituents expressing concern.
“The Post Office is a much loved service in communities across my constituency so it is great to see the service being strengthened by this proposed investment.
“However, I am conscious that the move of location may inconvenience some elderly or disabled people and I am writing to the local community council to alert them to the proposal.
“I would encourage constituents to contribute to the consultation which is open until February 15.”
The consultation will ask people how suitable they feel the location is, how easily accessible the inside of the office is, whether local community issues could affect the change and if there’s anything the Post Office can do to make things easier during the move.
The questionnaire is available at postofficeviews.co.uk and the branch code is 15286899.
