Beaten and tied up in OAP flats
Attacker jailed for 10 years
A frail Stirling pensioner was held up, robbed and assaulted in his own home.
Brian Reid (69) was targeted by violent thug Scott MacKenzie at his flat in the Kelly Court sheltered housing complex off Broad Street on September 9.
MacKenzie (29), whose address was given as the homeless unit at Springkerse House, was this week jailed for ten years at the High Court in Glasgow after pleading guilty to assault and robbery.
The court heard that he robbed his terrified victim, who has a severe lung condition and needs regular help from carers, after sneaking into the sheltered housing complex.
He bound the hands of Mr Reid and punched him twice before fleeing the scene but was later caught with cigarettes he had stolen from his victim.
Reacting to his attacker’s 10-year jail term, Mr Reid told the Observer: “I am surprised by it. Ten years is a long time. It’s good if this stops him doing it to someone else.
“He punched me twice and it did hurt but the main thing for me was that he made a fool of me. I was angry at myself that I let someone in to do that to me.
“The police I dealt with were all very good and I think they’ll be happy that he has been sentenced.”
Mr Reid heard the front door open before MacKenzie, who has a history of violence, appeared in his living room. Prosecutor Allan Nicol said the OAP thought he was there by mistake.
MacKenzie then pounced on his victim,
