Members and visitors enjoyed a display by Dawn Cullen on how to make a lampshade the quick and easy way followed by tea and Christmas fare. Competitio­n winners: Colourful socks - 1 June Boyd; 2 Ellen McClymond; 3 Doreen Snadden and Phyllis Gilroy. Three shortbread fingers - 1 Susan Baker; 2 Joan Dymond.

Buchlyvie

President Mary Benns welcomed members to the first meeting of 2017. After business matters were concluded she introduced Sue Mitchell, a therapist in the use of Bowen and Emmett techniques .

After a brief talk on the origin of these techniques a willing volunteer was drawn from the audience and Sue then proceeded to demonstrat­e how the Emmett technique successful­ly improved balance and stability. Further demonstrat­ions improved neck and arm flexibilit­y - all in all very impressive. Alison Moffat gave an excellent vote of thanks. Competitio­ns: three pieces of shortbread 1 Margaret Sparkes; 2 Anne Stewart. Favourite egg cup -1 Eileen Mayhew; 2 Marion Penman; 3 Margaret Sparkes. Hostesses for February are Lynsey Thomson, Alison Delaney, Ella Morrison. Members were reminded to bring suggestion­s for next year’s syllabus to the February meeting

Gargunnock

Next meeting is Tuesday, January 17 in the community centre at 7.30pm. Speaker Jane Milne’s topic is “On my bike”. Competitio­ns: Photograph with wheels in it and a holiday memento. There is also a Bring and Buy Sale so bring along your unwanted gifts

Kippen

At the monthly meeting in the Reading Room on Wednesday, January 18 at 7.15 p.m. members and friends will enjoy a haggis supper and entertainm­ent. A fish ornament is the competitio­n to aid ACWW.

Ruskie

Anne Artis gave a warm welcome to members and friends in an excellent turnout.

The entertainm­ent for the evening was provided by the talented members of Ruskie. The evening started with Jane playing the piano and singing some well known songs.

Marjorie then recited two hilarious poems, Norma played a selection of well known Scottish tunes on her accordion and Jean played the piano as the audience sang along. Anne Artis gave an address to the haggis while an excellent plate of haggis, neeps and tatties was served to everyone.

Thanks to Alasdair Beaton for the haggis, David Matthew for the turnips and Andrew Burnett for the tatties and to the ladies who did the preparing and cooking. Competitio­ns: four pieces of tablet - 1 Elsie Dougall. Acrostic poem - 1 Sheenagh Beaton; 2 Marjorie Baxter; 3 Isobel McGuire; 4 Allison McLeod.

Thornhill

After a very busy end to 2016, the first meeting of 2017 will be on Wednesday, January 18 at Thornhill Primary School when members will enjoy a Scottish themed evening with music and song. Competitio­ns - Three pieces of shortbread and a piece of Scottish jewellery.
