Marathon entries deadline

-

Entries for the first Stirling Scottish Marathon close to the public next week.

Anyone who wants to take part in the event, which is being put together by The Great Run Company and is supported by Scottish Athletics and the local authority, should submit their entry by Tuesday.

Organisers are delighted that more than 5000 people have signed up to take part in the event, insisting it is set to become one of the biggest marathons in the UK.

The event will take place on May 21 and will see runners start at Blair Drummond Safari Park before taking in landmarks including Doune Castle and the Wallace Monument before finishing up beneath Stirling Castle.

Those who planned the route say that after an undulating first five miles the course will be fast.

After success as 1-2-3 Britons in last year’s London Marathon brothers Callum and Derek Hawkins will join Tsegai Twelde in taking part in the event.

Liz McColgan, Scotland’s greatest ever distance runner, and Zola Budd will also run the marathon.

David Hart from The Great Run Company said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response and enthusiasm around this event.

“It will be one of the landmark marathons in the UK in year one.”
