Tough defence force Doune into replay

-

Greenock HSFP .... 1 Doune Castle ........ 1

Doune and Greenock will meet in a replay tomorrow at Moray Park after Saturday’s Scottish Amateur Cup fifth round tie ended all-square.

After four minutes Niall McClure dived to bullet a strong header from eight yards but the keeper clawed the ball out from under the bar with an instinctive save.

Dylan McGowan and Lukasz Duszynski had long-range efforts and a Greenock attempt from 20 yards was deflected high over the bar, much to keeper Malcolm Scott’s relief.

After 42 minutes Alan More swivelled to flash a fierce volley that flew inches wide of the right hand post and McClure thought he had opened the scoring when he spotted Tucker off his line and lofted the ball home from 40 yards, only for the referee to judge he had tugged his opponent as he had broken clear.

Doune finally took a 1-0 lead three minutes into added time. Chris Ogilvie powered a corner into the box and More rose highest to power a strong downward header into the net from 12 yards.

Greenock snatched an equaliser only 90 seconds after the half-time oranges. Malcolm Scott was only able to parry an effort and a home forward followed up to turn the loose ball home from six yards.

Greenock enjoyed a spell of pressure which saw an effort from the right edge of the box that flew narrowly wide while Des Currie did well to head another effort clear.

After 81 minutes substitute Jacob Macaloney broke down the right and sent a testing cross to the back post.

With the game deep in added time Doune countered with a sweeping move but were again unable to pierce the resolute Greenock backline. Doune Castle: Scott, Innes, Currie, McClymont (Docherty), Duncanson, McGowan (Macaloney), McClure, Duszynski, Ogilvie, McClure, More (McLachlan) Substitute: Burns.
