Kids learning life lessons

-

Big Noise was a way of equipping some of Raploch’s most vulnerable youngsters with the skills and ability to make something of their lives.

That was the view of Nicola Killearn, chief executive officer of Sistema Scotland which runs the Big Noise.

In a passionate defence of the programme, she said:“Big Noise Raploch currently works with almost 500 children. Many of these children are amongst the most vulnerable in Stirling. We are pleased the report recognises and highlights that the programme reaches far beyond the provision of music lessons.

“It teaches confidence, resilience, ambition, and a multitude of other transferable skills to support the children across all areas of their lives.

“It has been an intensive programme of work and a continuous learning journey for us. Our key goal as an organisation is to design, refine, and embed a pathway taking children from birth through to adulthood, that can contribute to positive destinations and grapple with some of Scotland’s entrenched social challenges and inequalities.

“As we look to the future, and the forthcoming 10-year anniversary of Big Noise Raploch in 2018, this is an excellent opportunity for us to reflect on our learning, and to ensure what we have learned benefits others tackling inequality, as well as working in music in Scotland. We are excited and committed to working with Stirling Council to explore how we can support other services and young people from across Stirling, while remaining fully committed to the children and young people of Raploch for the long term.”
