The news that the bridge between Stirling city centre and Springkerse is set to close for a year, delivered a strong reaction from our Facebook users.

We received a total of 100 comments on the story, with residents worried about the effect the closure will have on traffic in Stirling.

Jennifer Boyle: “Why can’t a new bridge be built off site and then the old one lifted out and new one lifted in over a few days like what they did at Bridgehaugh? The Kerse Road is the busiest road in Stirling.”

Jennifer Pollock: “Bet the businesses over the bridge will love that. Especially Lidl with a new shop opening. It will also cause a surge of extra traffic taking the Riverside turning for the folk that can be bothered to take an alternative route via the newer flats before the vue. It might be necessary work but it’s gonna be a right pain for many.”

Julie Logie: “That is a ridiculous length of time for one of the busiest roads in Stirling to be closed. The council must work with Network Rail to reduce this. Braehead and Broomridge will become a rat run and accidents will happen.”

Gary McGrow: “This will be a nightmare for Braehead/Riverside residents and everyone that works in Springkerse, but it’s Network Rail’s responsibility not Stirling Council’s.”

Allan Poole: “Consultation! That will be the same sort we got in Riverside when they closed the bridge by the station, and were told that it would be for our benefit! That was three years ago and the line still isn’t finished.”

David Mcnee: “Road works, rail works these things happen. Disruptions yes but I’m sure everybody will survive not the end of the world, dry your eyes and stop your moaning people.”

Kellie Marie Horn: “Are you actually kidding? As if the Springkerse road past the Peak isnt busy enough!”

Helen Dawson: “Very frustrating, first of all bus changes/cuts now road diversion to add even more time to my work commute, but appreciate public safety comes first.”
