Three Stirling County cricketers will represent Scotland at the ICC Women’s Global Qualifier in Sri Lanka next month.

And three others who have played for the club will be joining them on the trip.

Lorna Jack, Rachel Scholes and Kari Anderson will be supported by Abbi Aitken, who skippers the side, Fi Urquhart and Liz Priddle.

Scotland will face some world-class opposition in Group B, being joined by the likes of Pakistan and South Africa.

They will depart on January 29 to prepare for Sri Lanka with a short visit to the UAE where they will contest two warm-up games against Ireland at Sharjah Stadium before the Sri Lankan qualifiers.

Matches are against Zimbabwe (February 5 at Colombo Cricket Ground); South Africa (February 8 at Mercantille Cricket Ground); Bangladesh (February 10 at Colombo); Papua New Guinea (February 11 at Mercantille) and Pakistan (February 13 at Mercantille).

Currently a few of the girls are playing abroad, including Anderson, who is coaching and playing in New Zealand with Northern Spirit.

She will be vice-captain to Aitken, who said:“The squad is a good balance of youth and experienced players. We are very clear on our aims and aspirations for the tournament and what is required of us in order to achieve them.”
