Charity seeks support

Help kids in need

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Barnardo’s Scotland is looking for befrienders or group work volunteers to support children, young people and adults in Stirling and Clackmannanshire.

Volunteers support the charity’s staff with group work programmes such as nurture groups for younger children, peer groups for older children and young people, parenting programmes, parenting support groups and activity groups for all ages

Befriending also allows an individual to access local community activities, build relationship skills, make better use of their leisure time, try new things in a way that feels safe and supported and to build their selfconfidence and resilience.

Volunteer manager Fran Anderson said: “Our volunteers come from all walks of life and free up some of their time to support the work we do. We have befriending and group work volunteer roles available. We’d love to hear from people who want to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Lisa Gallie, a volunteer with the charity for over two years alongside being a mum and student, said: “Throughout my volunteering I have worked closely with individuals on a one-to-one basis, enabling me to build up positive relationships and gaining confidence in dealing with issues that may impact on the young person’s life. It can be challenging but also very rewarding and the staff are very friendly.”

All volunteers are given full training and support. Email frances.anderson@ barnardos.org.uk or call 07920 871 500.
