Maths Challenge Talented Beaconhurs­t pupils achieved one silver and five bronze awards in this year’s UK Mathematic­s Trust Senior Maths Challenge. More than 82,000 pupils from across the UK returned complet- ed exam-type scripts for the Senior Challenge with the top 10 per cent receiving a gold certificat­e, the next 20 per cent silver and the next 30 per cent bronze. Christophe­r Glading, from S5, achieved the best performanc­e in the school and was awarded a silver certificat­e. Meanwhile, Scott Black was the best performer in S6 and Jonathan Ackroyd was the best performer in S4 - both being awarded bronze certificat­es. Three other students Lewis Bowmaker, S4, Rhona Kiernan, S5, and Kelsey Campbell from S6 all received bronze awards. The school was delighted with the strong results especially in S4 where pupils will have a further two years to take part in the challenge. Pupils from S4-S6 are eligible to enter the competitio­n every year. Burns Fun Junior school pupils had the chance to celebrate Burns Day during an afternoon of singing, food and performanc­e. Senior school pupils also helped with the event by coming into the junior school and playing their musical instrument­s. Bruce Dickson impressed the younger children with his accordion while Jack McLay entertaine­d everyone with some great pipe playing.

S4 Reports Report cards will be issued to pupils on Friday, February 24 and will be sent home via schoolbag mail. If you do not receive your child’s report card on that date please contact the school office. S2 Parents’ Evening Next event is on Tuesday, February 21 from 4.307pm. The online booking system will be open from Friday, February 3 at midday. Instructio­n letters for parents have been distribute­d to parents via schoolbag mail. Any issues regarding your booking please contact the school office. Be prepared Pupils should ensure they come to school prepared. It is vital you have your PE kit, Home Economics tubs, lunch money, musical instrument­s, lunch card, locker keys, timetable, school bags, pens, pencils etc. when you arrive at school in the morning. Can parents/carers please also ensure that all school uniform is marked clearly with your child’s name, in particular school blazers. There is a number of blazers with no names on them making it very difficult to reunite them with their owner. Vaccinatio­ns DPT/MenC vaccinatio­ns and catch-ups are being held in school on Thursday, February 9 for S3 girls and boys and for any other pupils who were missed in the last round. Driving notice Please note that school pupils should be dropped off at the rear of the school building and not at the front. This is for health and safety issues both for Stirling High pupils and for St Ninians Primary School pupils as this area can become congested at peak times of the day. Staff developmen­t days Dates are February 13 and 14 followed by three days of local holidays (February 1517). Pupils will return to school on Monday, February 20.
