Bridge of Allan Sports Club’s squash seconds took another massive step towards securing back-to-back titles in the East of Scotland League when they despatched Edinburgh Sports Club VI 4-1 to go 27 points clear at the top of Division Three.

With impressive victories for Doug Curtis, Martin Jack, Martin Sanchez and James Dougan only a tight four sets defeat for talented teenager Robbie Harper marred a good night’s work.

Ahead of a trip to Watsonians tonight, skipper Bert Mitchell is confident the Richardson and Starlingsponsored side have the depth and quality to double up on silverware.

He said: “We have played 30 fixtures since we joined the East Leagues in Division Four at the start of last season and come through every time and that is an unbeaten record we are really proud of in the seconds.

“To be almost 30 points clear going into the last six matches is tremendous and a key part in that has been the emergence of talented kids like Robbie Harper, and emerging new talent like Jamie Campbell, who will have his second outing for us tonight in Edinburgh.

“When you also have guys of the quality of Martin Jack, who has never lost an East singles for us, that has proven a very potent cocktail and one which we are confident will bring us another title.”

Meanwhile in Division One, the firsts travel to league leaders ESC 1 determined to get back on track after two straight defeats. A flu bug forced the cancellation of the clash with Colinton Castle I.

Elsewhere, the thirds host fifth-placed Watsonians IV in Division Five, looking to claim their second home victory on the bounce and the ladies team have a free week after losing 3-2 at ESC I last week.
