Opportunity to find out about life saving tips

- Staff reporter

Local s have the chance to find out more about a national training centre for clinical staff at a public meeting next week which is being held in Stirling Community Hospital.

Organised by Stirling Public Partnership Forum, those attending the meeting, in the Lecture Theatre on Wednesday, February 15, at 7pm, will hear about the state-of- the-art Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors, based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

The centre provides training for around 1000 clinical staff from across the country and is the only high-fidelity centre of its type in Scotland.

It is equipped with two operating theatres and an inpatient ward which have two-way mirrors so that trainers can constantly monitor performance.

Clinical staff can practice their skills on specialist robotic mannequins including one which can respond to anaesthetic gases and ‘answer’questions to help medical staff reach the right decisions.

Another robot has a ‘heartbeat’and can open and close his eyes.

There is also a baby, a child and a pregnant female mannequin which are used for training medical, midwifery and nursing staff.

Those attending will also get the chance to learn about life-saving skills with NHS FV’s Lead Resuscitation Officer. Practical advice will be offered and attendees will find out how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator.

Anyone requiring crèche facilities or an interpreter can call 01324 614660 or e-mail Jessie. malcolm@nhs.net.
